Macfarlane Packaging, Design and Manufacture are a timber sheet board converter and offer many types of timber for your packaging including: Plywood, OSB, Particle Board, MDF and Hardboard.


OSB (Oriented strand Board)
OSB is manufactured from logs of timber cut to lengths and processed into precise strands mixed with resin, formed into mats and cross laminated at high temperatures. Sheet sizes are normally 2400 x 1200 and thickness 8, 11, 14, 15, 18 and 22. (Other sizes are available) OSB is used to manufacture cases, pallets or fittings.


PARTICLE BOARD (Chip Board)
Particle Board is manufactured from wood particles such as chippings, shavings and even sawdust, bound with resin, pressed and extruded. Sheet sizes are normally 2400 x 1200 and thickness 6, 12, 16, 18, 25 and 30. Particle board is used to manufacture Pallets or fittings.


MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard)
MDF is manufactured from Hardwood and Softwood broken down to wood fibres in a defibrator, combined with resin and formed under high temperature and pressure.  Sheet sizes are normally 2400 x 1200 and thickness is 4, 6, 12, 15, 18, 22, 25 and 30.  MDF is used to manufacture Pallets or fittings and can also be used on smaller boxes.


HARDBOARD (Medium to High Density Fibreboard)
Hard Board is manufactured from exploded wood fibres combined with resin & highly Compressed, Much denser & stronger than particle board.  Sheet sizes are normally 2400 x 1200 and thickness 3 and 6. Hardboard is used to manufacture pallet decks or fittings.


PLYWOOD
Plywood is available in many grades and manufactured from hardwood, softwood or mixed veneers cross laminated with adhesive under pressure. Sheets sizes are normally 2400 x 1200 and thickness 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 (other sizes are available). Plywood is used to manufacture ply cases, pallets or fittings.

Our policy is to purchase from suppliers with FSC or PECE credentials, ensuring that only timber from sustainable sources is used. In addition, Macfarlane subscribes to Timcon and is audited at both manufacturing sites for ISPM15 conformity.
