A global manufacturer of advanced tissue processing equipment

Customer

A global manufacturer of advanced tissue processing equipment.

Application

Protection of advanced tissue processing equipment throughout the global supply chain, resisting drop shock and impact damage. A typical product weighs around 130 Kg and stands around 1.5m high; many laboratories have limited space and headroom for unpacking, so the design needed to make it easy for one person to carry out the operation and a returnable pack was specified.

Solution

After a thorough analysis of the shipping cycle, Macfarlane designed a pallet-based pack with a heavy duty corrugated sleeve with sides that fold back to allow unobstructed front access. This avoids having to lift the pack clear of the contents in areas where headroom is restricted.

Foam inserts at the base and top of the equipment provide crush protection and help to preserve the integrity of the pack. Three locking devices secure the pack without the use of sealing tape, and a drop-down ramp allows the machine to be wheeled from its case, which is printed with full product details and packing/repacking instructions.

Results

The introduction of this pack has not only resulted in better transit protection for heavy yet delicate equipment, but the whole handling operation has been simplified so that a single person can unpack the machine quickly in a confined space.
